Bennington Fire and Rescue is looking for motivated individuals that want to help their community by volunteering as a firefighter. Volunteer emergency responders make up 73% of the fire service throughout the US. The volunteer firefighter is an extremely valuable national resource. Bennington Fire and Rescue is starting a new program effective July 1, 2016 that will allow qualified individuals who live outside the boundaries of Bennington Rural Fire District #7 to join the Department (click here to see current boundaries). We are seeking individuals that poses at minimum a State of Nebraska EMT license and a State of Nebraska FF I certificate.(If you currently have a State of Nebraska EMT license and are in the process of or planning on obtaining FF I please apply.) Individuals that poses a State of Nebraska Paramedic license but do not currently have FF I certification are encouraged to apply as well. This program requires three, 12 hour shifts per month with 2 of them being overnight. The individual will stay at the Bennington Fire Station and respond to 911 EMS and Fire calls. In addition to the 3 duty shifts, you will be required to attend regular business meetings, fire drills, and EMS drills. These meetings and drills are on most Monday nights and last up to 3 hours. Other requirements may include additional training, providing station tours, station chores while on duty. Individual sleeping quarters are provided for overnight shifts. We are also seeking individuals that live within the boundaries of the Bennington Rural Fire District #7 to volunteer as a firefighter/EMT. These individuals need to be willing to commit to obtaining a State of Nebraska EMT license as well as a State of Nebraska FF I certificate within the first year of appointment. Requirements for individuals that live in the district include making 10% of the calls for service in the district as well as the Monday night requirements mentioned above.
